Apart from the massive base plate, the UPF-5 is equipped with a yoke-shaped mounting bracket for the x/z-axis. Natural hard stone is absolutely free of distortion, has a low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent vibration damp- ing properties. The axes are thus driven directly without gearbox. The b-axis is equipped with a coun- ter bearing. Different zero point clamping systems can be mounted on the c-axis, such as the pneu- matically actuated EROWA PowerChuck P-clamping chuck in extra flat design, as shown in the illustration. 8 1 0 2 . 9 0 4 0 . : m a t k c u r d e g GUIDES All axes of the machine are manufactured in-house and are equipped with high-precision M- and V-rail guides or profile rail guides, which are pretensioned back- lash-free. The machine is driven with ball screws and servo motors. A high positioning and repeat accuracy is ensured by absolute position measuring systems with a resolution of 0.005 µm. Because of this design con- figuration of the axes, it is possible to drive the machine with increased acceleration values and to considerably increase productivity. The temperature of the bearing points of the ball screws and the guide rails is controlled with an accuracy of ±0.1 K by means of a water circuit to minimise the thermal growth of the components and the surrounding construction. 08
